Health minister Lo Chung-mau has expressed disappointment over problems with lifts at the redeveloped Queen Mary Hospital, which had delayed the launch of clinical services there.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Lo said hospital redevelopment projects are of great significance to the healthcare system.

“We are concerned when the new building can be put into use,” he said.

“Regarding the delay at the current stage, as a medical professional, I feel a bit disappointed.”

Lo said he hopes rectification works can be carried out as soon as possible.

“The Health Bureau will support the Hospital Authority and colleagues at the Queen Mary Hospital to minimise the impact on medical services during this process.

“As healthcare professionals, we are the users of the building, and it is not appropriate for us to comment on technical details involved.”

Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority Libby Lee also said HA staff were disappointed at the delay in the hospital’s redevelopment.

She said services at Queen Mary Hospital were unaffected at the moment, but the Hospital Authority would assess the impact of the delay on the hospital’s future development.
