The MTR on Tuesday said it filed a report to the police after an online video purportedly showed a group of people engaged in fare evasion at Tsim Sha Tsui Station.

The railway operator said it believed, upon reviewing surveillance footage, that the incident happened at around 11pm on August 23.

It condemned such behaviour, saying that it attaches great importance to the matter.

It will step up patrols at stations, the MTR added.

Any failure to pay the correct fare and other forms of fare evasion is a breach of the MTR by-laws, the company said, and it would impose a surcharge on violators or even initiate prosecutions.

The railway operator added that it would continue to remind passengers to pay the correct fare and use valid tickets through enforcement, patrols and education campaigns.

It urged commuters to notify station staff as soon as possible if they find any suspected breaches of the by-laws.
