Belt and Road participants on Wednesday expressed confidence in Hong Kong’s advantages in driving cooperation under the initiative.

Speaking at the Belt and Road Summit in Wan Chai, Deputy Prime Minister of Laos Saleumxay Kommasith said there had been significant progress in key areas, such as infrastructure connectivity, financial integration, digital innovation and sustainable development.

“As a super connector and super value-adder, Hong Kong drives multilateral cooperation, business matching and open trade, while providing the financial and professional expertise to turn dialogue into concrete achievement,” he said.

He added his country recognised the importance of transitioning regional partnerships from traditional models towards green innovation and high-value economic growth.

Vice President of Uruguay, Carolina Cosse, also said her country recognised Hong Kong’s advantages as an international financial, trade and shipping centre.

She proposed the development of a hub-to-hub cooperative platform between Uruguay and Hong Kong under the Belt and Road Initiative.
