Harbourfront Commission chairman Ivan Ho said on Friday that the construction of a new pedestrian walkway at the praya of Kennedy Town would not affect a seawall there.

This came after the Antiquities Advisory Board granted a grade 2 historical status to the seawall a day earlier.

Speaking on an RTHK programme, Ho said the authorities had taken the seawall’s historical value into consideration when designing the new walkway.

“A lot of factors were considered at the time," he said.

"We hope the design will allow people to appreciate the historic seawall from different angles.

“Meanwhile, authorities also have to make sure the future construction work will not compromise the seawall’s stability.”

Ho hopes the authorities can use technology to showcase the history of the praya as part of a working harbour.

He called for more efforts to make the background and history of the seawall better known to the public.
