Police have arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of theft after he allegedly refused to share lottery winnings with colleagues who pooled money for a Mark Six ticket, then disappeared.

Media reports say the man placed the bet, and the winnings were deposited into his account.

He reportedly works at the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department. The department acknowledged that police have launched an investigation. It said it would cooperate.

Police were alerted on Wednesday after the informant and the arrested man couldn’t agree on how to split the prize money, totalling about HK$30 million.
