The Housing Authority (HA) confirmed that the concrete quality of some structural components in a public housing development project in Tung Chung requires further review and testing.

In response to media enquiries on Saturday, the authority said the components are in Blocks 3, 4 and 5 of the project in Area 42.

The HA said its engineering team discovered the issue during routine concrete cube strength tests conducted between late August and early this month.

The Housing Department then led an on-site team in a detailed assessment and confirmed that the site is structurally safe.

The authority said the engineering team immediately instructed the contractor to take additional concrete core samples for compressive strength tests to assess whether the concrete strength meets design and contractual requirements.

The contractor was also required to submit a detailed report as soon as possible, along with rectification and repair proposals, so that remedial measures could be strictly implemented.

The contractor, meanwhile, has replaced the relevant concrete supplier.

The Housing Department has instructed other engineering teams to conduct a comprehensive inspection and spot testing of similar site works.

So far, no similar problems have been found at other sites.

The HA said the target is to complete the project by the original contract completion date, provided that all relevant legislation and structural safety standards are fully complied with.
