President Xi Jinping on Sunday proposed five initiatives on greater Brics cooperation in areas of artificial intelligence, trade and investment facilitation, digital industry, smart manufacturing, and talent development.

Xi made the proposals when attending the second and final day of the Brics summit in New Delhi.

He stressed that greater Brics must make greater impacts, achieve greater development, and lay a solid foundation for practical cooperation.

Brics should leverage strengths in being rooted in emerging markets and connected with the Global South, uphold openness and cooperation for mutual benefit and win-win outcomes, keep industrial and supply chains stable and unimpeded, and foster integrated markets, Xi said.

He also noted that Brics should build innovation incubators, upgrade traditional industries, develop emerging industries, and make forward-looking plans for future industries.

For his part, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for cooperation within the bloc, which he has said represents 50 percent of the world's population, 40 percent of global GDP and more than 25 percent of global trade.

"The power of BRICS lies in our diversity and cooperation," Modi told leaders on the final day of talks.

"We have tried to push inclusive global growth," Modi said.

"We may be rooted in different realities, but together we rise through cooperation and blossom for humanity," he said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, said the bloc was working to create a "new, more just, multipolar world order". (Xinhua/AFP)
