A 51-year-old man has been arrested over the murder of his 53-year-old wife, who was found with multiple stab wounds in their Heng Fa Chuen flat on Wednesday.

Officers said the woman was found dead at the flat on Shing Tai Road, and that her husband turned himself in at Kowloon City police station at around 7.30pm the same day.

The man told officers he had used a kitchen knife to attack his wife in the unit where they lived. Police found her on the bed in the master bedroom and she was confirmed dead at the scene by first responders.

"Through police investigations and a preliminary examination by a forensic pathologist, it was found that the deceased had multiple knife wounds, including to the neck, waist and hands," said Kwan Chun-ting, assistant district commander (crime) of the Eastern district.

"After investigating, we currently believe the incident occurred on September 16 between the early-morning hours and later in the day.

"The arrested man used a kitchen knife to attack the victim."

He was arrested on suspicion of murder and detained for investigation.

Police said preliminary investigations showed he had recently made risky investments and accrued debts of more than HK$1 million, which were believed to have led to disputes and arguments with his wife.

Kwan said the woman was a housewife while the man worked as an information technology professional and drew a stable income. The couple had two sons, aged 22 and 15.

He said there were no previous records of domestic violence or disputes involving the family.
