Police said a 27-year-old woman has died after she was chased and attacked by dogs in Yuen Long on Saturday night.

Officers said the victim was heading home on a bicycle from Yuen Long MTR station around midnight when she was chased by three medium-sized dogs on Pok Wai South Road. An informant also told police that three to four dogs were near that location at the time of the incident.

When paramedics arrived, the woman was not breathing and had no pulse. The force said she was covered in blood with serious injuries to her head and legs. She was rushed to Pok Oi Hospital and was certified dead later.

Cheung Chun-tong, Yuen Long's acting assistant district commander for crime said the woman’s injuries are believed to have been caused by animals.

“Our investigation shows that the victim has not suffered any loss of property, her wallet, phone, and all her personal belongings are intact. Preliminary examination of the victim's head, face, neck, arms, and legs revealed different levels of laceration," he said.

"Following an initial forensic examination, we believe most of these injuries are bite or claw marks caused by animals. The fatal injuries are believed to have been sustained to the head and neck. The exact cause of death is still pending further autopsy,” Cheung added.

He said police have not found the dogs and the case has been passed to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for follow-up investigation.
