Police will close major roads on both sides of Victoria Harbour in phases from Thursday afternoon for the National Day fireworks.

The 23-minute display will start at 8pm, and authorities expect it to attract about 260,000 spectators, with about 200 vessels expected in the harbour based on last year's data.

Road closures in Kowloon will kick in from 5pm, starting in Tsim Sha Tsui and Tsim Sha Tsui East and affecting Canton, Nathan and Salisbury roads as well as surrounding streets.

Kowloon Park Drive northbound and the Star Ferry Bus Terminus will close at 5.30pm, followed by the West Kowloon Cultural District and Kin Wan Street closures at 6pm and a final wave of shutdowns for more roads in Tsim Sha Tsui and Hung Hom at 7.45pm.

Across the harbour, most of the Hong Kong Island’s closures will begin at 6.30pm, affecting Central, Wan Chai and Eastern.

Golden Bauhinia Square shuts earlier than usual at 4pm, while the Central-Wan Chai Bypass and Island Eastern Corridor will also be affected.

At sea, a restricted area will be imposed at 7pm, with cordon lines expected to be lifted about 30 to 45 minutes after the display.
