The Commissioner for Transport, Winnie Tse, on Tuesday called on taxi drivers to provide courteous and quality service during the National Day golden week, as visitor arrivals are expected to increase during the holiday period.
Tse, who also chairs the Committee on Taxi Service Quality, led committee members and trade representatives in appealing to drivers to seize the upcoming business opportunities at a taxi stand at the Central Ferry Piers.
She urged them to provide e-payment options as required, use dedicated fleet taxi stopping points for pre-booked services, and reject illegal acts.
The Transport Department has reminded drivers to maintain a good service attitude with zero tolerance for refusing hire, taking circuitous routes or overcharging.
It said the police would step up enforcement during the holiday period.
Since the Taxi-Driver-Offence Points system took effect in September 2024, the Transport Department said about 230 drivers have incurred points for offences including overcharging, refusing hire and not taking the most direct practicable route.
Drivers who accumulate 15 points or more within two years may face disqualification from driving a taxi for three months for a first offence and six months for subsequent offences.
