The Tourism Board announced on Tuesday that it would launch the Hong Kong Halloween Month for the first time ever this year.

The city-wide event will take Halloween celebrations that used to be held for only one day at places such as Lan Kwai Fong and major theme parks to more tourist hotspots.

The board’s executive director Anthony Lau said many firms had recorded an increase in business during the Mid-Autumn Festival, and they hoped to turn up the festive energy even more for the upcoming Halloween celebrations.

“We will bring the festival atmosphere to key tourism hotspots through Hong Kong-style cosplay Halloween parties, large-scale themed installations and special offers across the city,” he said.

“Together we aim to deliver Hong Kong's, or even the region's, biggest Halloween celebration, showcasing a truly only-in-Hong Kong experience.”

Starting from October 17, revellers can head to the Chater Road area and Lan Kwai Fong in Central, Kai Tak Sports Park, Langham Place in Mong Kok, and Mody Road Garden in Tsim Sha Tsui to enjoy Halloween-themed installations, electronic music parties, cosplay carnivals, interactive ghost performances and immersive experiences for three consecutive Saturdays.

For those who dress up for the festival, they can enjoy free Citybus and tram night rides on October 17, 24 and 31.

The Halloween-themed open-top sightseeing bus will call at multiple festive hotspots on Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, while two Halloween party trams will run between Causeway Way and Sheung Wan.
