Five of Hong Kong's universities have once again made it to the global top 100 in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027.

According to the annual survey, the University of Hong Kong remained the SAR's premier tertiary institution, holding steady at 33rd place.

Chinese University dropped one place to 42nd.

The University of Science and Technology stayed unchanged at 58th.

City University climbed to an all-time high of 70th.

Polytechnic University advanced one place to 79th.

Tsinghua University in Beijing, meanwhile, was on the cusp of entering the top 10 for the first time, climbing one spot to 11th.

The survey noted that Asian universities' pursuit of excellence was reflected in their overall rise in positions, with three entering the top 15 for the first time, 21 in the top 100, and 40 in the top 200.

British and American institutions continued to dominate the top 10.

The University of Oxford retained the top position for the 11th consecutive year, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, while Princeton University and Stanford University shared third place.

A record 2,297 institutions worldwide were ranked this year.

It studied five performance indicators: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry.
