Various special offers have been provided by the government and different sectors in celebration of National Day.
These included discounts offered by more than 3,800 eateries across the city and half-price movie tickets.
A diner, who enjoyed 30 percent off for lunch, said the offers helped encourage people to stay in Hong Kong.
“People travel to the mainland usually because of the cheaper price and better service there,” she said.
“If local restaurants offer lower prices, people will be attracted to stay in Hong Kong, sparing them from the long journey to the mainland.”
Meanwhile, the MTR gave away 77,000 e-single journey tickets via a lucky draw, while people could also take free rides on the tram and several ferry routes on National Day.
The public was also able to enjoy free admission to some Leisure and Cultural Services Department facilities.
