A fire on the rooftop of a residential building on Nelson Street in Mong Kok on Tuesday prompted the evacuation of dozens of people.

There were no reports of injuries.

Police received reports of the blaze at Shun King Building at around 5.30pm.

Initial reports indicated that miscellaneous items on the rooftop caught fire, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky.

It was put out by firefighters at around 7pm.

Yau Tsim Mong district councillor Hui Tak-leung said many elderly people live in the building.

He said the evacuation of residents was generally orderly.
