The Transport Department on Thursday said it had communicated with the taxi trade over a new arrangement to be rolled out to manage queuing and fleet cab operations at the redeveloped Huanggang border crossing.
In a social media post, it said drivers of vacant urban and New Territories taxis, as well as fleet taxi drivers with pre-booked trips, must first obtain a queue number at a buffer zone before proceeding to the taxi stand or the designated boarding area at the public transport interchange.
Service ambassadors, it added, would be stationed at the scene to "dynamically" coordinate the dispatch of fleet taxis to enable travellers who have made pre-bookings to board quickly and smoothly.
For travellers, a separate lounge has been set up inside Huanggang port building for passengers waiting for pre-booked fleet taxi services.
Passengers must first go to a service counter inside the lounge to show their pre-booked taxi's licence plate number to an ambassador for registration, then monitor the display board for arrival information before proceeding to the boarding area, the department said.
