National security police have arrested two people on suspicion of publishing seditious posts on social media that incite hatred against the SAR's constitutional order, the force said on Thursday.

The suspects, a 38-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, were arrested in Kowloon on Tuesday.

Police allege they operated pages on various social media platforms.

The male suspect, a licensed insurance broker, also profited by selling insurance products through the pages, police said.

Officers said they had obtained court search warrants before the operation and searched the suspects' homes, seizing relevant exhibits.

The pair have been released on bail pending further investigation.

The offence of "doing with a seditious intention an act that had a seditious intention" under Section 24 of the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance carries a maximum penalty of seven years' imprisonment on first conviction.
