Developing innovative technologies to drive new quality productive forces has become a must as the ongoing global technological revolution and industrial transformation are making breakthroughs at an accelerating pace, Chief Executive John Lee said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a forum, Lee said the SAR would fast-forward development of strategic emerging industries in alignment with the country’s 15th Five-Year Plan.

“Hong Kong will continue to open up new economic tracks and become a breeding ground for new technologies, new products and new models around the world,” he said.

“Meanwhile, we will advance new industrialisation and promote the deep integration of the digital economy and the real economy, contributing to the building of a technologically advanced nation.”

Lee also said Hong Kong would promote collaboration among the government, industry, academic, research and investment sectors, turning research outcomes into products.

The government will also make good use of Hong Kong’s strength as an international financial centre to encourage investments in the innovation and technology sector, he added.

Lee went on to say that the SAR would step up research efforts in artificial intelligence, life and health technologies and new energy.
