Former SAR deputy to the National People's Congress and longtime principal of Pui Kiu Middle School, Ng Hong-mun, has passed away at the age of 100.
He had been a member of the national legislature from 1975 to 2008, first as a Guangdong deputy before representing the SAR from 1997.
Ng served as the principal of Pui Kiu Middle School from 1958 to 1985, before taking over as its supervisor until 1996. He then went on to be the director of the school management board from 1997 to 2004.
He helped found the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers in 1975 and served as its founding president.
In addition, he served on the Preparatory Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Basic Law Committee.
In a statement, Chief Executive John Lee expressed his sadness over Ng's death.
Lee said Ng made important contributions to Hong Kong's return to the motherland as well as its long-term prosperity and stability.
"He dedicated his life to patriotic education and had cultivated a wealth of outstanding talent for the country and Hong Kong. He was an extraordinary educationalist with remarkable contributions," the CE added in his statement.
Writing on social media, former chief executive and now vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, CY Leung, also expressed his deepest condolences following Ng's passing.
