Israeli police said on Monday they have arrested 10 suspects as part of an investigation into violent incidents in the West Bank over the weekend, including attacks on an American photojournalist and European diplomats in separate incidents.

The suspects were arrested in a pre-dawn operation on suspicion of involvement in acts of violence, violating a closed military zone order and illegal construction.

The suspects, who police have not identified, have been taken into custody for questioning.

Army Radio reported that the suspects were Israeli citizens.

A video released by the police of the pre-dawn operation appeared to show two slingshots, which are used to hurl stones, being found at one property. Police, military forces and the Shin Bet domestic security service took part in the operation.

Referring to the West Bank by its biblical name "Judea and Samaria", Israeli police commissioner Daniel Levy said the law applies to everyone, "regardless of identity or affiliation".

Masked Israeli settlers were filmed on Friday assaulting Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine, who was covering a Palestinian olive harvest.

Belgian, French and Polish diplomats, along with a French mayor and Palestinian civilians, had been attacked near Taybeh on Saturday by masked Israeli settlers.

On Sunday, US diplomats visited a Christian Palestinian village in the West Bank.

Their visit coincided with US President Donald Trump endorsing his ally, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for Israel's parliamentary election on October 27.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee attended a settler conference in the West Bank on Sunday.

Huckabee, an evangelical Christian and longtime supporter of Israel, earlier wrote on X calling for "those who attacked" the Washington Post photojournalist, a US citizen, to be jailed.

UN bodies and most countries deem the settlements illegal under international law, but Israel rejects this, viewing the territory as disputed rather than occupied. (Reuters)
