Tourism minister Rosanna Law on Wednesday pledged to balance the needs of the community when rolling out attractions in Hong Kong, after a lighting project on the Peak drew opposition from residents.
She said officials will conduct a site visit in the coming days to gather views before consulting the District Council, adding that nothing is set in stone.
As part of efforts to make the SAR more attractive, the Tourism Board is launching a new themed light show to replace the long-running "A Symphony of Lights" display.
One project is set at Lugard Road and Harlech Road at the Peak, with construction recently kicking off.
In a statement on Sunday, the Tourism Board said it had already sought advice from residents, government departments and tree experts.
The project, which would run on a 12-month trial basis, would adopt a "soft, low-glare lighting design" and would operate from 7pm to 10pm.
It added it would conduct broader consultation to "refine" the project's details.
Speaking at a Tourism Board event, Law pledged to listen carefully to residents' views.
"I understand that some of you have raised concerns, especially because the lighting effect is not yet visible and, during installation, some construction work is inevitable," she said.
"This has led to questions about whether the project might affect the environment or ecology, and we feel these concerns must be taken seriously."
Law added that the works were still ongoing, and repairs can be carried out if needed.
She said the incident has given officials valuable experience when taking forward tourism projects, especially those that integrate tourism into the community.
