Chief Executive John Lee said he was deeply saddened by the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck Xizang Autonomous Region.

Writing on social media, he expressed his deepest condolences to those who lost their lives and sympathy to the bereaved families and the injured.

Lee said the Hong Kong government will monitor the situation and is ready to provide assistance through the Disaster Relief Fund.

He said he hopes rescue work will be carried out safely and smoothly, and those who were affected will overcome the hardship in no time.
