The Development Bureau said on Tuesday a skybridge between two buildings to be constructed on Hung Hom waterfront would also serve as a viewing platform and a venue for public activities.
The plan was revealed as the bureau revised its development proposal for sites around Hung Hom MTR station and the district's harbourfront areas following a public consultation.
Permanent Secretary for Development Doris Ho told lawmakers the authorities plan to connect two mixed-use towers proposed to be constructed at the waterfront area.
The skybridge connecting the buildings would create an open space that could serve as a viewing platform, she said at a meeting of the Legislative Council’s development panel.
“Our current plan is that the space will be open to the public. But whether it will operate on a commercial basis or be open for free is something we need to keep flexible and decide at the next stage,” Ho said.
“Apart from allowing people to enjoy views of Victoria Harbour, we also have an idea that this space could be opened up for holding events.”
According to a document submitted to the legislature, the entire development at Hung Hom is expected to provide more than 200,000 square metres of gross floor area – an increase by three percent compared with the previous plan.
This includes more than 60 percent of areas for residential use and over 30 percent for commercial purposes.
Ho said the bureau had adjusted the allocation of floor space by cutting the floor area for commercial use and increasing the residential areas amid lower demand for the former.
