The Observatory on Sunday said Hong Kong recorded its warmest October since records began in 1884.

The forecaster said the average temperature last month stood at 27.6 degrees Celsius.

The mean maximum and minimum temperatures also set records, at 30.5 degrees and 25.8 degrees respectively.

The Observatory attributed the unusually warm conditions to the ongoing El Niño and a weak northeast monsoon, while noting that climate change also played a role.

A fresh to strong northeast monsoon is expected to reach the city in the coming days, bringing a slight drop in temperatures early next week.
