Police paid tribute to senior police constable Chu Chun-kwok, who died in September, at the Force Remembrance Day ceremony on Friday.

Chu was paralysed after he was attacked while on duty in 2005 and passed away this year at the age of 52.

The ceremony was led by police commissioner Joe Chow, who joined police representatives in honouring full-time and auxiliary officers killed in the line of duty.

In his address, Chow said the fallen officers had given their lives for Hong Kong’s safety and stability.

Their example, he added, places a responsibility on current officers to carry on the values and work they stood for.

Turning to Chu, Chow said his death, along with the sacrifices of other fallen officers, showed a firm commitment to protecting the public and their property and to moving the force forward.

He described their dedication as a guide for the force as it seeks to improve and meet future challenges.

Chow also said the sacrifices of those who came before had created a strong foundation for both the force and society, and urged officers to remain united and committed to serving the community.

The ceremony included the sounding of the "Last Post" and a two-minute silence.

Wreaths were laid by Chow, police commandant Johnny Leung and representatives of police formations and associations before the Books of Remembrance, which list the names of fallen officers.
