'Some pain' brought by tariffs: Trump

US president Donald Trump says Americans could feel "some pain" from the emerging trade war triggered by his tariffs against Canada, Mexico and China. He's also claimed that Canada would "cease to exist" without its trade surplus with the United States. The trade penalties that Mr Trump signed on Saturday sparked a mix of panic, anger and uncertainty. They've threatened to torpedo the decades-old trade partnership in North America while further straining relations with China. Jamie Clarke has the story.

Paul Chan has been under pressure to bring down public expenditure, amid an expected deficit of HK$100 billion for the current financial year. One way to do that could be tweaking the HK$2 transport subsidy scheme. Mr Chan also suggested that spending cuts could be made to healthcare and education. Damon Pang reports.

Kai Tak stadium roof to open for test match

Tens of thousands of people will flock to the new Kai Tak Sports Park tomorrow night in another trial event. For the first time, the roof of the main stadium is retracted for the football match, and authorities will gauge how noisy the fans can get, and, more importantly, if nearby residents will be affected. Covid babies more prone to skin conditions: research

Researchers from Chinese University say children born during the Covid pandemic are more likely to have eczema or other skin conditions. One reason is thought to be excessive cleaning, while another is that social distancing could have impaired the babies' gut microbiome. An analysis of data on more than 1,100 babies born in Hong Kong during Covid found a 46-percent increase in allergies, compared to children born earlier. One of the researchers, paediatrics professor Leung Ting-fan, spoke to Sophie Hui about the findings.
Surgeons turn to 3D printed models to practise operations

Eastern Hospital has introduced a new model of newborn babies' lungs so that doctors can practise surgical interventions for the condition pneumothorax, also known as a collapsed lung. Using data from patients and animals such as pigs and chicken, the model has been created to stimulate the texture of human skin and tissue. Victor Chan, a paediatric consultant at the hospital, told Natasha Ho why the similar texture is so helpful for doctors.
Heavy floods kill one in Queensland

At least one person is dead in Australia following heavy flooding in northern Queensland. Thousands have been forced to flee their homes to higher ground. Authorities say the waters will continue to rise and have warned of a "dangerous and life-threatening" situation. Jamie Clarke reports.
Days after rebels take over, Congolese fear going home

Thousands of displaced people in eastern Congo are in fear of returning to their homes after recent fighting, despite encouragement from occupying rebels. The M23 rebel group has promised to restore basic services such as water and power supply to the city of Goma. The rebels seized the major city last week and have since advanced towards Bukavu, in South Kivu, worsening a long-standing humanitarian crisis. Jamie Clarke reports.
