China ready to 'fight till the end' over US tariffs

China says it is ready to "fight to the end" with the United States, if Washington is bent on waging a trade war. This came after US President Donald Trump threatened to ramp up tariffs on all Chinese imports by another 50 percent, unless Beijing withdraws its tit-for-tat duty against his earlier levy. Chloe Feng reports:
White House claims 70 countries in talks with US on trade

Meanwhile, the White House says nearly 70 countries have reached out to begin negotiations over US tariffs. The Trump administration has already scheduled talks with South Korea and Japan, two close allies and major trading partners, while the Italian prime minister is due to visit Washington next week. 'Reckless' tariffs hurt global trade: CE

Here in Hong Kong, the chief executive has hit out at the United States for slapping what he called "reckless" tariffs on countries and places around the world. As Azam Khan reports, John Lee vowed to respond to the levies by deepening international cooperation.

Irina Fan, the director of research at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, told Carol Musgrave the tit for tat tariffs raised fears of a global recession, but added the SAR had diversified its trade links and was prepared to face the fallout from the escalating disruptions from the trade war:

China strategist Andrew Leung says the United States is harming the trade bodies that it helped create after the second world war. Lee's remarks follow the visit last week by YouTube megastar IShowSpeed. The cosy relationship between US President Donald Trump and one of his main backers, billionaire Elon Musk, appears to be turning frosty, if reports citing sources prove to be correct. According to a Washington Post report, the world's richest man tried to reverse tariffs imposed by the president. Todd Harding reports:
Iran holds out hope of a nuclear deal with the US

Iran's foreign minister believes a new nuclear deal could be agreed with the United States, provided the Americans show sufficient goodwill in talks this weekend. He also said Iran's principal aim would remain the lifting of sweeping US sanctions. President Donald Trump made the surprise announcement on Monday that his administration would open talks with Iran. At the time, he said he was hopeful of reaching a deal with Tehran - but warned the Islamic republic would be in "great danger¨ if the talks failed. Jamie Clarke has more:
UN condemns Israeli efforts to block aid to Gaza

The United Nations Secretary-General has rejected a new Israeli proposal to control aid deliveries in Gaza. Israel says it will not allow the entry of any goods and supplies into the territory until Hamas releases all their remaining hostages. The group still holds 59 captives. Twenty-four are believed to be alive. Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip killed at least 25 people, including eight children and five women, overnight and into Tuesday, according to Palestinian medics. Jamie Clarke reports:
