Chaos as MTR's TKO Line shuts down during evening rush

Services on the MTR's Tseung Kwan O Line were suspended for more than five hours on Thursday, and only resumed late into the evening. The government says it is "deeply concerned" about the incident. The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department has ordered the MTR to conduct a comprehensive review, and submit a report together with improvement measures. The railway operator apologised for the disruption. Charlie Chun was there to talk to some affected passengers.
All possibilities to be considered in MTR incident probe: govt

Authorities confirmed the MTR's initial findings, linking the incident to a faulty overhead cable and damaged components. But a government statement early on Friday morning stated that engineers would also consider the possibility of human factors and environmental conditions during an overnight inspection at the scene. As Todd Harding reports, the incident also caught the attention of transport minister Mable Chan.
Five-hour suspension unsatisfactory: former MTR engineer

A former MTR engineer said it was unsatisfactory that services only fully resumed more than five hours after the incident was first reported. But lawmaker Gary Zhang noted that the Tseung Kwan O Line was also hit by a signalling system failure on Thursday night, on top of a power supply trip, potentially delaying emergency repairs. Construction firm set to appeal after being delisted by govt

The government says a contractor linked to multiple industrial accidents will be removed from a list of approved general building contractors from the 20th of next month. The firm - Aggressive Construction Company - was involved in three incidents between 2020 and 2023 that resulted in five deaths. The firm expressed regret over the decision and said it intends to launch an appeal. Kelly Yu reports.

Robotic arms deployed for bladder tumour removal

The Chinese University says its team is the first in the world to make use of robotic arms to help doctors remove a tumour in the bladder in one piece, rather than fragmenting it. The technique is known as en bloc resection of bladder tumour, or ERBT. Dr Peter Chiu is one of three doctors who performed the robot-assisted operations in a clinical trial that started in December.
