Boris Johnson under growing pressure to leave immediately

The British prime minister, Boris Johnson, is coming under pressure to resign immediately after confirming that he was stepping down as leader of the Conservative party. Mr Johnson said he had appointed a new Cabinet and would stay on as prime minister until a successor was chosen. But many in his own party calling for him to go immediately, and the leader of the opposition Labour party, Keir Starmer, has threatened to bring a vote of no confidence in parliament if Johnson isn't gone within days. RTHK's Vicky Wong asked our London correspondent Peter Anderson how long he thinks Johnson can cling on:
Flight suspension mechanism put on hold

The government has put on hold its policy of banning flights to Hong Kong if an airline brings in Covid-positive passengers or breaches anti-epidemic regulations. Officials say the flight-suspension mechanism brought "unnecessary trouble" to SAR residents. Frank Yung has details:
Daily Covid-19 cases rise past 3,000

Hong Kong has seen its daily Covid caseload surpassing the 3,000-mark for the first time since April. Health officials warn that daily figure could reach 6,000 after two weeks -- if infections continue rising at this rate. Joanne Wong with the details:

Despite a gradual rise in the number of local Covid cases, Associate Professor Vijay Dhanasekaran from the University of Hong Kong's School of Public Health says there's no cause for concern. But he told Ben Tse local authorities should consider setting up permanent facilities specifically catering for vulnerable elderly people, instead of automatically sending even mild cases to hospital:
Lawmakers discuss how to put Xi Jinping directives into practice

Lawmakers have held a debate in Legco about implementing the instructions President Xi Jinping gave in an address during his visit to Hong Kong earlier this month. Xi said the SAR must fulfil four requirements -- including the comprehensive and accurate implementation of One Country, Two Systems -- and expressed hopes that the administration will improve governance and resolve difficulties in people’s lives. Tsuen Wan transitional housing project breaks ground

A grassroots organisation has broken ground on its transitional housing project in Tsuen Wan. The project by the Society for Community Organisation, or SoCO, is aimed at generating two hundred units for seven hundred people, and is expected to be completed in the middle of next year. SoCO's Sze Lai-shan says she hopes it will benefit less well-off families waiting for a public housing unit. She spoke to Kelly Yu:
Trial run launched to get pedestrians off their phones

Rare coral species identified in HK waters

Baptist University researchers who found three previously-unidentified coral species in the eastern waters of Hong Kong say the species are quite rare, and that there may be more to discover. The three new sun coral species are orange, purple and green in colour, and resemble firecrackers or tubes. Professor Qiu Jianwen, a biology scholar, explained to Violet Wong what they found:
