A week after shelving a twice-delayed waste-charging scheme, the government is now looking at different ways that people can pay to dispose of rubbish. Environment minister Tse Chin-wan says authorities are considering charges based on the total volume of garbage generated in each building. Violet Wong reports:
Sham Shui Po road partially reopens after sink hole  Listenfacebook
Traffic authorities have partially reopened a stretch of road in Sham Shui Po late on Sunday that was hit by heavy subsidence. On Friday, authorities were forced to close off a section of Hai Tan Street after part of the carriageway plunged into a four-metre deep hole that measured about eight by 12 metres. As Chloe Feng reports, the fast lane of the carriageway is now open to traffic after officials completed temporary repairs:
Road subsidence rare but possible, says engineer  Listenfacebook
An engineer says routine check-ups and reports of uneven road surface from citizens could help reduce the recurrence of road subsidence. Aaron Bok, former president of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, also said while it was not possible to completely avoid roads from subsidising, he believed it was rare. Bok, who previously worked for the Water Supplies Department, told Carol Musgrave what might have caused Friday's incident in Sham Shui Po:

Lawmaker calls for govt efforts in low-altitude economy  Listenfacebook
A lawmaker says Hong Kong cannot lag behind in the use of low-altitude flying technology, while urging the government to promptly set up an interdepartmental group to formulate comprehensive strategies. Chan Siu-hung visited mainland cities to examine the development of a low-altitude economy. He is among a group of lawmakers who want the government to pilot projects in the city, such as using drones for food and medicine delivery. Chan told Janice Wong that mainland officials supported the sector's development and local authorities should do the same:

An aide to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed that Israel accepts a framework deal for winding down the Gaza war, that is being advanced by President Biden. But the official described the proposal as flawed and in need of much more work. Unveiling the plan, President Biden said the militant group, Hamas, was no longer capable of carrying out another attack like it did on October 7, when armed gunmen stormed into Gaza and killed some 1,200 Israelis and took almost 300 hostage.
