Sole bid rejected for land to build subsidised homes Listen
There are fresh concerns about the housing market after the government rejected the sole bid for a site that was put up for public tender to allow developers to build subsidised homes. The bid for the residential plot in Chai Wan failed to meet the reserve price. It was to be a new approach for the government to allow private developers into the subsidised housing market. Anne Chan reports:

A property analyst says the government needs to fine tune its scheme aimed at encouraging private developers to build subsidised flats. Nicholas Brooke, chairman of Professional Property Services Group, says he is not surprised the first public land tender under the scheme failed given restrictions around the plot, such as requiring developers to keep unsold flats. Describing current market conditions as "frail", Brooke suggested developers be allowed to sell around half of units they build under the scheme in the private market. He told Samantha Butler authorities should treat this first land tender as a "test":
Festival aims to raise profile of HK brands on the mainland Listen

The Hong Kong Christian Service says social care services need to be made more accessible to ethnic minority elders. Service head, Viola Tsang, said not only was there a language barrier that prevented such people from seeking help, some of the ethnic minority elderly were illiterate, and not able to understand information printed in their language.
