An investigation has found that an engine defect found in a Cathay plane earlier this month could have escalated into extensive damage. The discovery led to Cathay grounding all its Airbus A350s. Tony Sabine reports:

An aviation engineer says the maintenance advice from Rolls Royce over its airplane engines may be problematic. Warren Chim is a spokesman for the Aircraft Division of the Hong Kong Institute of Engineering. He said the faulty fuel hose would only be inspected when the engine was removed from the wing. But he told Carol Musgrave it was too early to draw conclusions while investigations were on-going into the design and manufacturing of the component, as well as its maintenance:

Hong Kong's police chief has defended an officer who shot dead a man after responding to a domestic violence incident. Raymond Siu said the police's actions were made to prevent others from being seriously hurt. The man allegedly charged at officers while holding scissors and a chopper in North Point on Sunday night. Local banks cut lending rates following Fed cut  Listenfacebook
Banking giant HSBC is cutting its best lending rate in Hong Kong by 25 basis points to 5.625 percent from Friday. Bank of China (Hong Kong) and Standard Chartered are also lowering their lending rates by a quarter of a percentage point, but from Monday. It comes after the Hong Kong Monetary Authority reduced its base rate by 50 basis points to 5.25 percent, following a half-a-percentage cut by the US Federal Reserve. The reductions are likely to benefit home buyers and businesses, but financial leaders advised caution. Janice Lo reports:

Medical experts are warning people to avoid direct contact with raw fish after a deadly infection was reported across all 18 districts of Hong Kong. The Privacy Commissioner is warning people that fraudsters could be using fake online recruitment adverts to persuade people to hand over personal information which can be used to scam them. Ada Chung advised against providing details, such as ID card numbers, when responding to so-called "blind ads" - where the identity of those behind the post is not clear. She told Hailey Yip that jobseekers should be vigilant when coming across such ads:

Southern District rolls out panda campaign  Listenfacebook
The Southern District Council is hoping to give the local economy a shot in the arm by hosting a series of events around the theme “Giant Pandas Are Everywhere”. It comes after the city welcomed the birth of twin giant pandas at Ocean Park last month - the city's first locally-born pandas. The council is arranging panda photo-taking spots, a panda-themed bus for Citybus routes 73 and 75, and panda sampans in the Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter. The DAB’s district councillor Victor Lau told Kimmy Lau that he hoped the "panda trend" could lure tourists to the area:

Southern District councillor Cheung Chin-chung says the council has drawn up a panda tour map for visitors to explore the area. He welcomed the news that China would be gifting a pair of giant pandas to Hong Kong this month. He told Ben Tse more about what merchants would be offering in the area:
Expanded Wine and Dine Festival hopes to draw 150,000  Listenfacebook
The Wine and Dine Festival will make its comeback to Hong Kong next month at the Central Harbourfront, with over 300 booths featuring food and drinks from 35 countries and regions taking part. The organiser of the event, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, says this year's festival will last five days instead of four - staying open until 11 pm each night. Its general manager Raymond Chan also told Elvis Yu that the fair is expected to attract 150,000 visitors, with 10 percent expected to be coming from other places:

China has expressed regret and sadness over the death of a 10-year-old Japanese schoolboy, who was stabbed while on his way to school in Shenzhen on Wednesday. The Foreign Ministry called the attack an isolated case. Altis Wong reports:
Hezbollah: pager, walkie talkie attacks crossed all red lines  Listenfacebook
Hezbollah's leader, Hassan Nasrallah, says the deadly synchronised explosions of its communications equipment crossed all red lines and rules of engagement. In his first comment on the attacks, Nasrallah said they represented a declaration of war by Israel. But he said Hezbollah would not surrender. The attacks killed at least 37 people and injured some 3,000. Jamie Clarke reports:
