Worker dies after being hit by falling metal pipes  Listenfacebook
A worker in his seventies was killed after he was struck in the head by falling metal pipes as he was unloading them from a lorry in Sheung Shui. A concern group for industrial accidents said that there have been 76 fatal incidents so far this year. It's calling for stiffer penalties against employers who flout occupation safety rules. The Drainage Services Department has expressed concern over the work accident at Sheung Shui Heung. The Acting Director of Drainage Services said he was deeply saddened the worker had passed away and expressed condolences to his family. Robin Lee also said he has instructed the project team to follow up the cause of the incident and carry out a comprehensive review on the safety working procedures and measures. Kelly Yu reports.
Concern group calls for more workplace safety education  Listenfacebook
The Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims has called for more safety education as it revealed a concerning trend in workplace fatalities and sudden deaths in Hong Kong this year. The association reported 76 fatal workplace accidents across all sectors as of Monday, with nearly half occurring in the construction industry. The group also said it followed up on 40 cases of sudden deaths at work, twice the total from last year. Venus Cheuk, an organiser from the association, told Kelly Yu more about their findings.

Authorities have issued two penalty tickets and 33 written warnings to venues that have violated the ban on disposable plastic products. It comes as the Environmental Protection Department took action after the grace period for the new law ended about two months ago. Altis Wong with this report.

An expert has said that Hong Kong is in a unique position to become a pioneering space sustainability hub. The University of Hong Kong recently hosted a conference involving more than 70 delegates from over 20 countries on space sustainability and debris. Space sustainability looks at the operational safety of the "low earth orbit" where most satellites operate, which is now under threat of debris clutter. Professor Quentin Parker, director of Laboratory for Space Research at the University of Hong Kong, told Azam Khan that the issue could halt the way we use mobile phones, and bank transactions. And Hong Kong is an ideal place to bring countries together to solve the problem.
