HK's retail sector upbeat despite another decline  Listenfacebook
Retail sales fell for the ninth consecutive month in November, falling 7.3 percent on a year-on-year basis to just under HK$32 billion. Sales of cars, electrical goods, and furniture were especially hard hit, but sales at supermarkets - and of food and alcoholic drinks - rose. The government put the declines down to a change in people's consumption patterns and a strong Hong Kong dollar. It said the expansion of the multiple-entry visa scheme and other stimulus measures should boost sentiment. Anne Chan reports.

Housing minister Winnie Ho says the government isn't including cage homes and cubicle units under the planned new regulatory regime for subdivided flats, because those are already subject to an existing licensing system. The government has set minimum standards for subdivided flats which will be known as basic housing units once the standards are met. Damon Pang reports.
Breast milk bank a good start for HK: association  Listenfacebook
The Hong Kong Breastfeeding Mothers' Association has welcomed the launch of the SAR's first breast-milk bank. The facility - located at the Children's Hospital in Kowloon Bay - will start services on Monday. It aims to collect around 1,000 litres of breast milk a year, benefiting hundreds of newborns. Chairwoman of the Breastfeeding Mothers' Association, Jacy Chan, called it a good start. She told Sophie Hui many mothers were interested in becoming donors, and it was important to make it easier for them to donate milk.
Authorities to vet more northbound car applications  Listenfacebook
The Transport Department says the authorities are now handling up to 500 applications each working day from car owners who want to drive to the mainland. As Anne Chan reports, that's up from 400 previously.
Toy and Games Fair goes green  Listenfacebook
The annual Toys and Games Fair will kick off on Monday, featuring more eco-friendly products. The Trade Development Council, which organises the four-day event, says the Green Toys zone will return for a second year, showcasing toys made by eco-friendly or recycled materials. Qatar-based broadcaster, Al Jazeera, has condemned a decision by the Palestinian Authority to bar it from operating in the occupied West Bank. The authority, which cooperates with Israel on security matters, announced the suspension on Wednesday. It accuses the news organisation of incitement and interfering with Palestinian internal affairs. Al Jazeera accused the authority of seeking to 'hide the truth about events in the occupied territories'. The US Federal Bureau of Investigation says the New Orleans truck attacker acted alone. The driver, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, had posted videos on social media hours before the rampage, saying he was inspired by the Islamic State group. Indian authorities say they've completed moving hundreds of tonnes of toxic waste from a chemical factory that witnessed one of the world's deadliest gas leaks 40 years ago. Officials say it'll take between three and nine months to treat and destroy the waste. But activists have raised concerns about potential damage to people's health at the new location. Jurassic-era dinosaur footprints found in southern England  Listenfacebook
Researchers say they've uncovered hundreds of dinosaur footprints dating back to the middle Jurassic era in a quarry in southern England. The dig has found five extensive trackways, one of which measures more than 150 metres in length, but they could extend much further, as only part of the quarry has been excavated. The tracks reveal the comings and goings of two different types of dinosaurs: a herbivore and a meat-eater, as Jamie Clarke reports.
