Transport safety in HK 'in need of completel overhaul' Listen
Hong Kong's latest fatal road accident involving a bus on Monday morning demonstrates that the city is in urgent need of a completely new road safety strategy, according to transport expert Becky Loo. Two people died and 16 others were injured when a Citybus double-decker smashed into the back of a lorry which had broken down in West Kowloon. Professor Loo, who heads the University of Hong Kong's Department of Geography and is also director of its Institute of Transport Studies, told Jim Gould authorities should consider a more robust system to reward good drivers and punish bad ones, as well as the use of new technology to make the city's roads safer:
Kurt Tong refuses to apologise for warning over mainland influence on HK Listen
America's top diplomat in Hong Kong, Kurt Tong, says he won't be apologising for recent comments he made on the SAR, including that Beijing is tightening its grip on the city. He says mainland officials have taken his remarks out of context and people ought to read for themselves exactly what he said. The Consul General says the main message of his speech last Wednesday at a HKUST alumni association meeting was that Hong Kong is a great place to do business and he wants the city to stay that way.
