Organisers of the cross-harbour swim announced on Friday that they have been given the green light by the government to hold the race on October 23.
There will be a quota of 1,500, and swimmers will have to meet the requirements of the vaccine pass and present a negative PCR test result obtained within 48 hours prior to the event.
The race will start at the Golden Bauhinia Square public pier in Wan Chai and end at the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui.
Those taking part in the "racing group" will have to pass a time trial and only the top 50 men and women will be allowed to take part, while there will be a random draw in the "leisure group" if the number of applicants exceeds the quota.
Registration for the race begins on Saturday and will end on September 23.
