The Hong Kong Sevens got underway on Friday, three and a half years after the territory's premier sporting event was last held.

The first match in the World Rugby Sevens Series competition featured Ireland, who finished fifth last season, against Kenya.

The African side scored the first try, but Ireland hit back to win it 28-12.

The defending Hong Kong Sevens champions from 2019, Fiji, beat Japan 59-12 in their opening pool game.

There were also wins for France, Argentina, the USA and South Africa.

Hong Kong play reigning World Sevens Series champions Australia in the final match of Friday. The hosts are drawn in a very tough Pool A, which also includes New Zealand and Samoa
