The third and final day of the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens is well under way, with the home side falling after a titanic battle against Canada.

Hong Kong were desperately unlucky to lose 19-17 to Canada. After conceding two early tries the home team came roaring back with tries from Max Woodward, Russell Webb and Yiu Kam Shing to take the lead midway through the second half, bringing the crowd at Hong Kong Stadium on their feet.

But Canada hit back through Thomas Isherwood, and then clung on for the win.

Hong Kong have now lost to Canada in 14 games in the World Series but never have come so close to rewriting the record books.

Later in the day, Hong Kong bowed out of the tournament when the home side lost to great Asian rivals Japan 24-17.

Japan had a 17-nil lead after two tries from Kazuma Nakagawa, and one from Yoshihiro Noguchi before a double from Russell Webb got the home team back in the race.

"Russell Webb has single-handedly dragged Hong Kong back into this game!", exclaimed RTHK commentator Danny Hicks.

However, it was not Hong Kong's day and Japan sealed the game with another try – this one from Shotaro Tsuoka.

Harry Sayers touched down under the posts, but Japan won 24-17.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong star Yiu Kam-shing received a hero's sendoff after his final game of the Hong Kong Sevens. He's retiring after next year’s Asian Games.
