An exhibition football match featuring some of the sports' all-time legends ended with the team captained by former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs taking the win on Saturday at Hong Kong Stadium.

The Scholes Legends beat the Owen All Stars, who were led by former Liverpool striker Michael Owen, in a resounding 5-2 victory at the World Football Masters Cup 2024.

Robert Pires and Luis Figo each netted twice for the winning side.

The match, billed as the first large-scale friendly held in the city since the pandemic, was played in three parts instead of the usual two halves.

French legend Pires opened the scoring for the Scholes Legends in the fifth minute, followed by a goal from teammate Figo, a former Ballon d'Or winner, who extended the lead in the16th minute.

Former Liverpool player Luis Garcia scored for the Owen All Stars in the 38th minute after the first break, before former English midfielder Lee Hendrie and Pires netted back-to-back goals to make it 4-1 at the second break.

A successful penalty kick in the 74th minute from Robbie Fowler, also a former Liverpool player, brought hope to the Owen All Stars.

But Figo sealed the match with a fifth goal for the Legends.

Pires said he was happy to be playing in Hong Kong.

"It's nice to play against the good players. Some of them were great rivals, especially when we played against Liverpool or [Manchester United]. It was a good time, good memories," he said on the sidelines.
