Hong Kong's Lo Wai-fung has made history by becoming the territory's first taekwondo athlete to make the Olympics.

He's headed to Paris this summer in the under 68kg class because an opponent he lost to in a qualifying tournament in March was disqualified.

The Taekwondo Association said originally, only the two athletes who made the final of the Asian qualifier would reach the Olympics.

But Lo, 22, is now taking the spot because Ali Reza Abbasi from the Refugee Olympic Team was deemed ineligible.

Both the male and female tournaments have four weight categories, with 16 fighters in each weight class.

The Olympic taekwondo competition begins on August 7.
