Former world number one Justin Rose says he's pushing hard to add more trophies to his golfing career, as he returns to Hong Kong this year to compete for the first time since 2017.

The Englishman came second in The Open in Scotland in July, but admits he's had an up and down season so far.

He says he's hungry for more and still has a lot left in the tank at the age of 44.

"Obviously yes, I've won a major. Yes, I've been to world number one. Yes, I've won an Olympics. Yes, I've done a lot of things. But I've really only ever done them once. So I'd love to become more of a consistent winner at that level," he told Hong Kong reporters on Monday via an online meeting.

"And obviously, that's hard to do at my age. But that's what keeps me motivated and keeps me going, because I still think I have that kind of Indian summer of my career available to me."

Rose won the Hong Kong Open back in 2015 before snatching a gold medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics the following year.

He said that with stops in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in November, he looks forward to coming to the SAR for a strong end to the golf season.

"I thought what a fun way to end the year as well to sort of come and play a tournament that has been good to me in the past and, you know, in a city that I really really enjoy," Rose said.

"I'll be coming there to sort of enjoy the good vibes of years past that I've had in Hong Kong. And obviously 2015 was probably the highlight. I remember it being an interesting week in the sense that until you get through the 18th hole, you never know what's going to transpire."

Rose said he finds the Fanling golf course to be a place with "old-school charm" and a history that is hard to reproduce.

The Hong Kong Open will take place between 21-24 November.
