An apprentice jockey from Hong Kong has been injured in a fall during a race in Australia, the Hong Kong Jockey Club said on Monday.
Ivy Lam is said to be in stable condition.
She fell after her horse suffered a heart attack during a race at Gawler Racecourse in Adelaide.
“Ivy was injured when her mount, Jacob’s Gate, suffered a medical episode and collapsed at the 700-metre mark. Racing SA stewards and First Care Medical staff were immediately on the scene and worked to stabilise her condition prior to the arrival of SA Ambulance paramedics,” a statement issued by the local horse racing governing body, Racing South Australia, said.
Lam was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club said Amy Chan, headmistress of the Apprentice Jockeys’ School, was heading to Australia to offer assistance to Lam and her family.
