The chairman of the people's government of the Tibet Autonomous Region on Thursday said classes have resumed in Dingri County following the massive earthquake earlier this year.
At a plenary meeting of Tibet deputies of the National People Congress in Beijing, Gama Cedain expressed gratitude to various provinces and sectors of society that provided support after the 6.8-magnitude quake struck the county in Xigaze city.
In his work report, Premier Li Qiang said Beijing would provide "quality meteorological services" to better respond to natural disasters including floods and earthquakes.
"We will provide support for post-earthquake recovery and reconstruction efforts in Dingri County, Xizang Autonomous Region, and work to ensure that residential buildings and infrastructure in key areas are more earthquake-resistant," the report said.
Gama Cedain said reconstruction work began on Monday, adding the work report's mention of these efforts showed the advantages of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
The chairman also highlighted Tibet's current economic and cultural prosperity, noting the region has experienced no major political or violent cases for 17 consecutive years.
