The Hong Kong, China, women's cycling team rode their way to victory at the three-day women's Tour of Thailand, while rising star Ceci Lee claimed second place in the individual general classification.

Lee, Leung Wing-yee, Leung Bo-yee, Yang Qianyu and Kwan Tsz-kwan finished in an overall time of 19 hours, 43 minutes and 37 seconds, tying with the host nation’s Thai team.

The title was ultimately awarded to Hong Kong based on superior stage placings across the race.

Hervé Dagorne, head coach of cycling at the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI), said the team worked very hard on every stage, and their win is a huge encouragement ahead of the National Games in November.

"They bring together a team spirit that will help when we stay together back in Hong Kong, so that is really helpful," he said.

Lee, 23, showcased her growing prowess by securing second place in the individual standings.

She claimed runner-up finishes in the first two stages and third in the final stage, narrowly edged out by Thailand’s Jutatip Maneephan, who dominated with a clean sweep of all three stages.

Lee earned the white jersey, awarded to the tour’s best young rider.

Dagorne said that Lee is "a talented cycling rider, but sometimes she misses confidence and it affects her decision or strategy.

"We had a long talk before she left and she was ready for a new start, especially after the disappointment in the Olympics last year.

"She has been working on herself and she's still so strong that she makes good decisions and she has the support of a team.

"She also has the support of a new coach, Ben Kersten, who joined HKSI one month ago, so this combination [brought] her to this result."

The team now shifts focus to the National Games track cycling test event, set to take place in Hong Kong from April 19 to 21.
