Fencer Ryan Choi struck gold in the FIE Grand Prix Foil in Shanghai on Sunday – his first in an international competition.
The 27-year-old Hong Kong, China fencer, ranked 32nd in the world, defeated former world champion Tommaso Marini of Italy 15-12 in a thrilling final.
Meanwhile, world number one Edgar Cheung of the SAR won bronze, after narrowly missing the chance to retain his title.
The Olympic gold medallist fell 15-13 to Marini in the semi-final.
