SAR adds two bronze at World University Games

Hong Kong, China boosted its medal count at the FISU World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany with two more bronze medals.

Nineteen-year-old fencer Summer Sit came third in the women's sabre individual event.

Sit powered through the early rounds, defeating opponents from India, Spain, Italy and France to reach the semifinals.

There, she battled Paris Olympic team silver medalist Jeon Ha-young of South Korea.

Despite a valiant effort, Sit lost 12-15.

There was no bronze medal match, guaranteeing her a place on the podium.

Meanwhile, the women's table tennis team of Kong Tsz-lam, Karen Lee, Pedrey Ng and Wong Hoi-tung took bronze for the SAR.

After beating hosts Germany in the quarterfinals, they fell 3-1 against Japan in the semis.

Hong Kong, China secured bronze because there was also no third-place match.

Fencer Kaylin Hsieh won gold in the women's individual epee earlier, so the SAR's medal haul now stands at three.
