Hong Kong, China's mixed doubles table tennis duo Baldwin Chan and Wong Hoi-tung have secured bronze at the FISU World University Games in Germany following a 2-4 semifinal defeat to China's Zeng Beixun and Han Feier on Tuesday.

The SAR pair started strongly, taking the opening game 11-8.

However, the national team duo adapted quickly, winning the next two games 11-6 and 11-5 to establish a 2-1 lead.

Chan and Wong then bounced back, taking the fourth game 11-4 to even the score.

The key fifth game went to deuce before the Hong Kong pair narrowly lost 13-15.

The China duo won the semifinal by taking the sixth game 11-9 for a 4-2 overall victory.

Despite the loss, Chan and Wong secured a bronze medal for the team without the need for a third-place match.

Up next for the Hong Kong duo are quarter-final doubles matches that will see Chan teaming up with Yiu Kwan-to on the men's side and Wong pairing with Ng Wing-lam on the women's side.
