Hong Kong, China on Wednesday secured a historic silver medal at the Asian Table Tennis Team Championship in India, the SAR's best showing at the men's team event.
The SAR fell 3-0 in the final to the national team in Bhubaneswar.
Veteran Wong Chun-ting came up short in team Hong Kong's opener against Lin Shidong, losing 3-0 after a 8-11, 4-11, 4-11 result after 14 minutes of play.
Baldwin Chan pushed world champion Wang Chuqin to four games, but was unable to hang on – losing 10-12, 9-11, 11-5, 14-12 in 37 minutes.
Yiu Kwan-to capped off the local side's line-up in his showdown against four-time Asian champion Liang Jingkun. He lost 11-13, 6-11, 10-12 in a 27 minute match.
Despite the result, it was still the best-ever finish for the SAR at the men's team event – following previous bronze medals in 1974, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2009.
