HK swimmers round off Asian Youth Games on a high

Hong Kong, China swimmers capped off a dominant showing at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain by adding seven more medals to their tally on the final day of competition on Thursday.

The latest triumphs mean the SAR finished the competition seventh place in the medals table with 36.

Casper Tsui claimed another gold for Hong Kong in the 50m breaststroke, touching the wall in 28.24 seconds to finish 0.29 seconds ahead of Singapore's Zavv Lee. South Korea's Jun Hyun rounded out the top three.

Eunis Man climbed the podium twice on the final day, striking gold in the girls' 50m breaststroke before taking silver in the 200m individual medley.

Fellow Hong Kong swimmer Claire Cheung finished close behind Man for silver in the 50m breaststroke, while Wang Xintong won a bronze medal in the 200m individual medley.

The SAR collected one more silver in the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay, while Wang Yi-shun brought up a bronze in the boys' 200m butterfly.

"Despite a series of intense competitions, the swimming team has maintained remarkable momentum," said Philip Mok, honorary deputy secretary general of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China.

"The swimming team has secured a total of 28 medals at this edition of the Asian Youth Games, reflecting the impressive capabilities of our young athletes," he added. "I look forward to seeing them shine on the international stage in the future."

Hong Kong, China had also won medals in athletics, road cycling, and table tennis, as well as e-sports and triathlon across the nine-day event.

The national team topped the medals table with 147 medals, including 63 golds.
