President Xi Jinping on Friday put forward a five-point proposal for promoting a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalisation and building a regional community at the 32nd Apec economic leaders' meeting in Gyeongju, South Korea.
He called for joint efforts to safeguard the multilateral trading system, build an open regional economic environment, maintain the stability and smooth flow of industrial and supply chains, promote digitalisation and greening of trade, as well as promote universally beneficial and inclusive development.
He called on the group to keep international economic and trade rules up to date to reflect the changing times, so as to better protect the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.
He said group members should work together to build an open economic environment in the region, keep promoting trade and investment liberalisation and facilitation, deepen fiscal and financial cooperation, and steadily push for regional economic integration.
"We should work together to keep industrial and supply chains stable and smooth. We must join hands rather than part ways, and strengthen our links rather than sever them. We should vigorously expand our common interests, and support the open development of supply chains," he said.
Xi also said the group must remove various green barriers, and expand cooperation in green industries, clean energy and green minerals.
He added that members should adhere to the people-centred development philosophy, focus on imbalances in development, and foster an economic globalisation that is more inclusive, sustainable, and beneficial to all peoples in the region.
"China always pursues the basic state policy of opening up, and has taken real steps to promote an open world economy," he said.
"China’s door to the world will not close; it will only open wider and wider."
Xi is expected to hold his first talks with Japan's new leader Sanae Takaichi and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on Friday. (Xinhua)
